FAMILY PHOLCIDAE

The spider family Pholcidae are small- to medium-sized, haplogyne spiders, having six or eight eyes.

They can be easily distinguished from other families by the following characters:
1- prosoma about as long as wide;
2- clypeus about as high as chelicerae;
3- male palp with prominent retrolateral paracymbium (procursus), which is rarely reduced;
4- male chelicerae usually with sexual modifications;
5- tarsi usually pseudosegmented (Huber, 2000).

Six-eyed pholcids are usually tiny, leaf-litter dwelling spiders.

Daddy Long-leg Spiders (Pholcidae)

These spiders need no introduction. They make their webs in dark or dim corners of houses and buildings. They create the untidy cobwebs under the ceiling and staircase. They have rather long and thin legs. When disturbed, they vibrate their bodies so energetically that they appear as a blur.
